Evaluation Criteria

  • Significance of Problem: The accomplishment must address some aspect of a problem of US national significance in the area of national security, homeland security, energy, environment, health care or education. Though the accomplishment itself does not necessarily have to address the problem at the national level, the connection to national significance must be clear. (For example, analysis and solution of a health care problem in New York City may be acceptable if the problem is prevalent in other cities and relates to a national problem.)
  • Quality of Systems Thinking: The accomplishment must clearly show the application of systems thinking. It must also illustrate the benefit that systems thinking brought to the analysis and allowed the achievement of something that was not otherwise possible.
  • Level of Impact: The accomplishment must contribute to the solution of the problem and have measurable impact. The nominations should include the metrics by which the project was deemed a success and had impact.
  • Contribution of the Nominee: The nominated individual or team must have been responsible for the key Systems Thinking insights that made the accomplishment possible, and deserving of a major share of the credit for the resulting impact.
